London, UK -- Savacentre, a wholly owned subsidiary of J. Sainsbury and UK specialist hypermarket business, has installed an IBM RS/6000 SP at their head office in Wokingham, Berkshire. The system will run SAS online transaction processing (OLTP) software to identify and track consumer purchasing patterns which will be used to develop and run more targeted Savacentre sales promotion activities. The data-warehousing project, which went live in July, is designed to enable Savacentre to react quickly to customer trends. The system, a joint project between IBM RS/6000 and its business partner Caplin Cybernetics, will be used primarily by Savacentre's marketing operations and in its home & leisure department. Savacentre plans to continue to build the volume of data held on the RS/6000 SP and make it available to other departments which will then be able to develop their own analysis and reporting tools. Currently 26 users in marketing and home & leisure are supported, with plans to increase this when the system is extended to other areas of the business over the next few months. In the future, Savacentre's other transaction processing systems may be migrated to the RS/6000 SP. Caplin Cybernetics will continue to provide Savacentre with a full support contract.
