Houston, TX -- BMC Software, Inc. announced that Wal-Mart Stores, the nation's largest retailer, has purchased BMC Software's data management products, PATROL DB-Reorg and PATROL DB-Basics. The PATROL DB products will provide high-speed reorganization of data across Wal-Mart's more than 3,000 Informix database servers running custom applications that encompass all the company's operating units, including stores, clubs and distribution centers across the country. PATROL DB-Reorg will enable Wal-Mart to perform "lights out" reorganizations of data -- the ability to complete an entire database reorganization without on-site user intervention -- for its extensive configuration of hardware and software platforms, supporting mission-critical operations. PATROL DB-Basics offers database administration functionality for Informix databases, increasing DBA productivity, as well as the availability, integrity and reliability of data and databases. With PATROL DB-Basics, the Wal-Mart IT organization now can perform routine database maintenance and tasks without developing and maintaining complex, custom processes. Wal-Mart IT executives said that the deciding factors for the purchase of BMC Software's data management solution were the ability to improve centralized operations, realize substantial cost savings from performance improvements and achieve productivity gains. "...With PATROL DB products, we now are able to truly automate the database reorganization process in our open systems environment," said Randy Mott, senior vice president and chief information officer for Wal-Mart. "BMC Software has provided us tools that not only support our environment, but more importantly they significantly improve database performance and DBA productivity."
