CFD: Light at the End of the Tunnel?

Nick Wirth swears by it; Adrian Newey and Mike Gascoyne are highly sceptical. We are talking about computational fluid dynamics, or CFD for short, which in layman’s terms is the use of computers to simulate airflow over a solid surface. In order to save millions of pounds a year on aerodynamics, Virgin Racing will make Formula One history this season as their cars have been designed without the use of a wind tunnel.
