In an interview with Federal News Radio, Chief Technology Strategist from Red Hat’s U.S. Public Sector Group discusses how the shift to cloud is going through the same growing pains open source did with security being one of the most prevalent concerns. Just as open source had its large share of enterprise customers afraid to use something that anyone could have contributed to or created, cloud is experiencing the same level of suspicion. Hellekson notes, however, that open source software has “a remarkable record in terms of security, in terms of the number of defects per million lines of code” and cites a study demonstrating that with more software code being written the instances of flaws goes down rather than higher. While security should be a prominent concern and trusting one’s platform is paramount, making sure that proper due diligence is conducted before adoption can ease these concerns.
