One of the conversations that has been circulating in the last year around cloud computing that is of relevance to all parties involved; developers, vendors, small and mid-sized businesses, large enterprise, and the public sector is the mode of cloud adoption. With all other technological paradigm shifts in recent history, there has been a predictable pattern of adoption; development and adoption occurs at the academic and government level and then slowly trickles down (again, from the top down) to commercial enterprise–from the largest to the smallest–in that order. Due to the unique cost structure of cloud computing, it is no longer an issue of “he with the most capital gets the best toys” rather it’s who can create the most compelling use out of something that will only be paid for as the business implements a technology or service. This “bottom-up” approach has been taking place for some now–it’s only recently that it’s becoming clear.
