Darrell M. West, Vice President and Director, Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution has written extensively in the past on the cost savings provided by a shift to the cloud for the public sector. He writes again in this week’s note to the public about the cost savings that could be realized after cloud migration, finding that federal agencies who made the move to cloud saw between 25 and 50 percent savings due to a lapse in the purchase of servers, software costs, and the reliance on fewer IT staff position. While that’s bad news for federal IT workers, this has meant savings for cash-strapped federal agencies as well as increased efficiency.
