Iceland has been on the front pages for some time now due to its volcano activity, but there’s been some other movement in the country on the technology and enviornmental front. Iceland is one of the world’s leaders when it comes to clean energy from hydrothermal power and this energy source will soon be powering a startup called Greenqloud. This project aims to rent space in clean-powered Icelandic data centers to sell cloud services to companies that want to take advantage of a reduced carbon footprint. Greenqloud hopes to appeal to those looking for virtualized server hosting and storage as well as processing of scientific data and more general SaaS or infrastructure.
