Although many enterprises are by now aware that there could be cost savings by moving to the cloud, security and a host of other unknowns have made wide adoption a slow process. If companies were willing to partition their cloud needs, however, balanced with their security concerns, it is reasonable to keep secure data on a private cloud while sending all non-mission-critical work into the public cloud where the cost benefit is arguably the highest. The decisions about what to keep on a private cloud versus send to the public realm is not just based on security and policies–investment capital and the nature of the applications are crucial considerations as well.
