rPath’s Chief Marketing Officer sat down with me at Cloud Expo for a few minutes to discuss some of the tensions between those who require speed of IT services and those who control such services. The rise of public cloud offerings has, in his view, heightened this tension and has forced users and IT alike to think differently about how they’ve typically negotiated their needs.
In addition to providing some background on deployment tools in general, Jake Sorofman provided some details about how the company worked with the Department of Energy and Argonne National Lab to help scientists deploy their own stacks to a grid environment in an on-demand basis to provide self-service provisioning, which allowed scientists to control variations and computational consistency.
