The launching ceremony of 2015 ASC Supercomputer Challenge (ASC15) was held in Beijing on January 27th. At the after ceremony interview, Dr. Qing (Kitty) Ji, the executive director of ASC, mentioned that Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, has ever showed attention to ASC14, and highly praised the Nanyang Technological University, who won the second place in the final. It would be wonderful to have Mr. Lee and other ASC followers to attend the closing ceremony this year, Dr. Ji also shared.
In May, 2014, the Mr. Lee’s wrote on Facebook that
“I am happy to see our students excelling in the sciences, engineering and IT. These are fascinating and exciting subjects. They will also be valuable skills to have, in the high-tech world we live and work in. I will always be glad that I studied Maths and Computer Science at university, even though I did not continue with them afterwards. I hope more students will make these subjects their passion. – LHL”.
He shared the NTU’s group picture as well.
The comments from Mr. Lee indicates that the ASC have been well accepted by many countries as its value on supercomputer talents training. Since 2012, ASC has successfully impacted on 1000+ students from over 200 universities. As one of the largest technological university student competition in the world, ASC has been rather influential and motivated many young talents to start their journey of meeting HPC, understanding HPC, and loving HPC. Some of them may finally take HPC as a career option. Many ASC students have now enjoyed success in universities world-famous or Top 500 companies.
It’s reported that the number of the teams registered in ASC15 has break the record. There would be a quite tough competition to be qualified for this year’s final, since with over 150 teams including those with high competitiveness, such as MIT, Nanyang Technological University, Tsinghua University, National Tsinghua University and so on.
