IDC released the preliminary agenda for this spring’s HPC User Forum, held April 11-13 in Tucson, AZ. Deep Learning, HPC in the Cloud, and NSCI are among the themes being tackled. There’s also a technology update from Intel and a look at HPC in Europe on the agenda.
“HPC technologies and methods have been advancing the state of the art in machine learning, deep learning and other advanced data analytics applications. The April meeting will explore where things stand in this part of the HPDA market and where they’re headed,” said Steve Conway, IDC Research Vice President, HPC/HPDA and Steering Committee, HPC User Forum.
“One-quarter of HPC sites already exploit public clouds, although on average they send under 10% of their HPC workloads in that direction today. Speakers at the April meeting will describe what’s happening at the forefront of HPC public cloud use what could happen as public clouds become more capable of handling challenging HPC jobs.”
The Tuesday morning sessions, chaired by Arno Kolster of PayPal, will dig into Advanced Analytics/Machine Learning/Deep Learning. Preliminary topics and speakers are listed here:
- Machine Learning, Prabhat (NERSC)
- Advanced Data Analytics and Health Care: The Optum Labs Partnership: John Erickson (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute)
- Computational Aerosciences: Karthik Duraisamy (University of Michigan)
- ORIGAMI: Advanced Data and Workflow: Rangan Sukumar (ORNL)
- Graph Analysis Using GPUs, with Real-World Examples: Brad Bebee (Systap)
- Effect of Platform Choices on the Data Analysis Process: Seung-Hwan Lim (ORNL)
Focus shifts to HPC in the Cloud in the afternoon:
- Use Cases and Best Practices for Cloud-based Enterprise HPC: David Pellerin (Amazon Web Services)
- Trends in HPC Cloud Computing: Speaker TBD (Microsoft Azure)
- Panel Discussion: HPC in the Cloud: Representatives from cloud user organizations and cloud services providers will discuss advances in HPC cloud computing and plans for addressing constraints
HPC User Forum meetings, coordinated by IDC, are held twice a year in the U.S, with the second meeting scheduled for Austin, TX, September 6-8. There are also two international meetings planned this year, one hosted by CINECA in Bologna, Italy, September 26-27, and a second hosted by the University of Oxford, Oxford, U.K., September 29-30.
