The Top16 finalists of ASC16 Student Supercomputer Challenge will be revealed on March 18 at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China. According to the ASC Committee, there are a total of 6 prizes worth of nearly $40,000 this year. This makes the ASC Competition the supercomputing hackathon with not only the largest participation but also the highest awards in the world.
“e Prize” is a major award exclusively provided by the ASC. “e” represents not only the most important natural constant in science, but also the next challenging target for the supercomputer performance — exascale. The “e Prize” this year will be given to the team that gains the best optimization performance of a CPU+MIC heterogeneous parallel computing version of DNN, one of the most important deep learning algorithms in artificial intelligence.
What’s new this year is the Most Popular Team Prize. The ASC Committee will launch a public voting platform on Twitter and WeChat on March 18. Two awards will be given to the top team on Twitter and the top team on WeChat that have the most votes on April 20 0 AM (UTC/GMT +8:00). The cash award is 5,000CNY each.
During the ASC16 Final, all 16 teams are to design and build a cluster to conduct a benchmark test LINPACK, a benchmark standard HPCG, a surface wave numerical model MASNUM-WAM, a material simulation software ABINIT, and a Mystery Application under 3000W. The Inspur Group will provide their server NF5280M4 and other equipment. The students will challenge the deep learning application DNN over 100,000 pieces of speech data . At the end, the teams are required to present their system designs along with the result and analysis to the Judge Committee.
