Diane Bryant
Diane Bryant has been promoted to executive vice president of Intel. Prior to this appointment, Bryant led Intel’s Data Center Group as its senior vice president and general manager. She has been with Intel since 1985.
“The data center has become a primary growth engine for Intel, and under Diane’s leadership, it reported record revenue of $16 billion in 2015,” said Intel CEO Brian Krzanich. “This elevated role reflects the significance of the cloud to Intel’s strategy as we transform the business, and Diane’s proven ability to extend our value proposition to accelerate public, private and hybrid cloud adoption.”
Jack Dongarra
Dr. Jack Dongarra has been named the program chairman for ISC 2017. In this role, he will lead the ISC program team to define the 2017 program. He will also work with the steering committee to help enhance the value of the event for the HPC community. Dongarra is a University Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at the University of Tennessee.
“I am honored to be named the program chair for ISC High Performance in 2017. I have been participating and actively contributing to ISC every year over the last three decades, first as a speaker, and later as a collaborator with Hans Meuer, Erich Strohmaier, and Horst Simon as one of the TOP500 authors,” said Dongarra. “My mission as program chair for ISC 2017 is to continue to improve the quality of the ISC technical program and to help expand the HPC community.”
Ron Perrott
Earlier this month, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) awarded Ron Perrott the Distinguished Service Award for “providing vision and leadership in high performance computing and e-science, championing new initiatives and advocating collaboration among interested groups at both national and international levels.” Perrott is a visiting professor at the Oxford e-Research Centre and was formerly the director of the Belfast e-Science Centre.
The ACM stated that “Perrott has been consistently at the forefront of the promotion of high performance computing since he worked at the NASA Ames Research Center in the 1970s on the ILLIAC IV.”
Bill Griffin
Bright Computing has appointed Bill Griffin as its new CFO. For the past nine years he served as CFO for StrongView Systems, an independent provider of enterprise marketing software. Before StrongView, Griffin worked for a number of other companies where he held executive-level financial positions.
“I am excited about joining the Bright Computing team and using my skills and experience in the software arena to build a world-class corporate finance and accounting team that will help guide the company as it expands to its next stage of growth and development.”
Brian Turner
Brian Turner has been appointed to Cray’s board of directors. He previously served as the CFO of Coinstar and has held many other financial leadership positions throughout his career. In addition to Cray’s board, Turner sits on a number of others as well.
“Brian has an amazing background in finance and strategy, and has played a leadership role in several technology companies that have a track record of impressive growth,” said Peter Ungaro, President and CEO at Cray. “Brian’s insight, knowledge and expertise will be valuable resources for Cray and our leadership team. He is a great addition to our Board, and we are excited to welcome him to Cray.”
Zoe Cournia
Dr. Zoe Cournia has won PRACE’s Ada Lovelace Award for HPC. She was selected for her contributions and impact on HPC in Europe on a global level. Cournia received the award at PRACEdays16 where she also participated in the final plenary panel on “How can we assess European competitiveness in the global HPC race?” Cournia is a computational chemist and investigator – assistant professor level at the Biomedical Research Foundation, Academy of Athens.
“Using the PRACE HPC resources and recent advances in computer-aided drug design allow us to develop drugs specifically designed for a given protein, shortening the time for development of new drugs,” says Dr. Cournia. “I believe that our work is a good example of how computers help develop candidate drugs that have the potential to save millions of lives worldwide. I am honoured to receive this prestigious award and hope that this serves as inspiration to other female researchers in the field.”
John Caldwell
AMD’s board of directors has appointed John Caldwell as chairman. He is taking over for Bruce Claflin who has held the position since 2009. Caldwell joined AMD’s board in 2006 and has held a variety of different positions since then. He has also been the CEO of three tech companies and has been on the board of seven.
“I am honored to be named chairman of AMD’s Board,” said John Caldwell. “It is an exciting time to be part of AMD as we execute on our transformative strategy — bringing innovative products to market and delivering increased value to our shareholders. On behalf of our Board of Directors, I would like to recognize Bruce Claflin for his leadership and for his continuing contribution to our company.”
Carla Sublett
Rackspace has promoted Carla Sublett to senior vice president and chief marking officer. In her new role, Sublett will oversee all global marketing functions. Prior to her promotion, Sublett was the CMO of Americas at Rackspace. She has more than 17 years of technology sales and marketing experience and held a variety of these types of positions at Dell before joining Rackspace.
“Since joining Rackspace in May 2015, Carla has demonstrated exceptional leadership and successfully strengthened our presence as the managed cloud leader throughout the Americas,” said Taylor Rhodes, Chief Executive Officer of Rackspace. “Carla’s vision and execution will help Rackspace grow more rapidly in the years ahead.”
