GridIron Software Targets Multi-Processors, Multi-Cores


GridIron Software has introduced GridIron Nucleo, a productivity enhancement tool for digital post-production that takes advantage of multi-processor and multi-core technology. Nucleo for Adobe After Effects addresses the compute time bottleneck, allowing rich motion graphics and visual effects for film, video, DVD and the Web to be developed in a way that does not dramatically change workflow.

GridIron Nucleo supports multi-core and multi-processor workstations, allowing Adobe After Effects to run in parallel. This allows users to realize performance gains of up to 300 percent - effectively speeding up their render and preview activities. These types of performance gains have typically only been provided by architectures such as grids, clusters and render farms.

Joost van der Hoeven of Animotion, an audio-visual design firm based in The Netherlands, said, "Using Nucleo for Adobe After Affects makes renders and previews much faster on the same dual processor machine, so I'm looking forward to the arrival of my new Quad. Nucleo's functionality allows me to preview and create more versions of a design or animation because now I can review the results so quickly, allowing me to be as creative as possible."

The GridIron Nucleo approach to parallelism is specifically designed to harness the power of multiple processors or multiple cores in a single computer. This method addresses one of the acknowledged gaps between software and hardware created by the innovation of multiple core processors from companies such as AMD, IBM and Intel.

"The dual-core AMD Opteron and AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processors have been designed specifically for intense software applications like those used in digital content creation," said Charlie Boswell, director of Digital Media and Entertainment for AMD. "Nucleo is a valuable enhancement that helps you fully experience the outstanding power and performance of AMD dual-core processors when rendering and previewing with After Effects."
