Force10 Networks has announced that it has named Stanley Meresman to its board of directors. Serving as an independent director, Mr. Meresman brings more than 30 years of experience in financial and operational executive positions to Force10 Networks.
"Stan has a long history of being an active board member for several Silicon Valley-based high growth technology companies," said Marc Randall, CEO and president of Force10 Networks. "His experience in shepherding companies through significant growth stages will be invaluable to Force10 as we expand our product portfolio and explore new market opportunities."
As senior vice president and CFO at Silicon Graphics, Inc., Mr. Meresman presided over the company's finances as it grew from $250 million to $3.8 billion. At Cypress Semiconductor, Mr. Meresman served as vice president, finance and administration and CFO, managing the company's growth from $2 million to more than $100 million in revenue and successfully leading it through an initial public offering.
"Force10 has the solid reputation, sterling list of customers and innovative technology that are critical to continued growth and long-term success in the industry," said Mr. Meresman. "The opportunity to work with a company that is redefining the way businesses leverage their networks is truly exciting."
Most recently, Mr. Meresman was a venture partner with Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV), a leading provider of growth capital to high technology companies. Prior to becoming a venture partner at TCV, Mr. Meresman served as general partner and COO. He holds a BS in industrial engineering and operations research from the University of California, Berkeley and a MBA from Stanford.
In quieter times, sounding the bell of funding big science with big systems tends to resonate further than when ears are already burning with sour economic and national security news. For exascale's future, however, the time could be ripe to instill some sense of urgency....

Large-scale, worldwide scientific initiatives rely on some cloud-based system to both coordinate efforts and manage computational efforts at peak times that cannot be contained within the combined in-house HPC resources. Last week at Google I/O, Brookhaven National Lab’s Sergey Panitkin discussed the role of the Google Compute Engine in providing computational support to ATLAS, a detector of high-energy particles at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
