Partners with Penguin Computing to deliver 8-node cluster solution with IP SAN
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 17 -- Chelsio Communications, Inc., the leading provider of 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) adapters and ASIC solutions, today announced the availability of a complete 8-node cluster with IP SAN solution for less than $30,000.
Chelsio has partnered with Penguin Computing to develop an 8-node Unified Wire cluster at a new price point suitable for departmental deployments. The cluster consists of a total of 32 compute cores and 40GB of memory, and 1TB of IP SAN with full-service storage functions (consolidated SAN/NAS, snap shots, mirroring, volume management, etc.), a 25" rack, KVM, cluster management software, a low cost, high performance switch fabric consisting of a low-latency 24 port 10GbE switch based on the FocalPoint switch chip from Fulcrum Microsystems and Chelsio's 10GbE Unified Wire adapters, shipping crate, all for a list price of $29,999. This plug and play cluster is ready to use out of the box and includes 16 10GbE uplink ports for scaling of the 8-node leafs into larger clusters.
The cluster can concurrently run storage, clustering, and networking traffic at 10Gb full-duplex with a very high IOPs to the centrally managed storage that is bundled, and as such can be used for a wide variety of applications.
"This is a new price point for the industry, at less than $1000 per core for a 10Gb Unified Wire cluster," said Kianoosh Naghshineh, president and CEO of Chelsio. "This cluster demonstrates the immediate availability of fabric convergence on industry standard TCP protocol using low cost 10Gb Ethernet switches."

"With Chelsio's technology, our high performance computing customers can also directly connect the high-performance 10Gb cluster fabric to Chelsio's Unified Storage and interfacing to existing Gigabit infrastructure becomes straightforward and cost efficient.
The cluster is available immediately and can be quoted through Chelsio's or Penguin's sales force. The cluster will be demonstrated this week at the Chelsio booth (#2115) at SC08 conference in Austin, Texas.
