Jan. 27 -- The upcoming event, Distance Learning as an e-Infrastructures Application: Innovation and Future Trends, will take place at the Habitat Centre, New Delhi, India, Jan. 28-29, 2009. This event is a joint conference between two e-Infrastructures projects: BELIEF and 6CHOICE with the support of GLOBAL and 6DEPLOY.
During the two days participants with various backgrounds and from diverse disciplines and regions will exchange information and ideas on the adoption of e-Infrastructures for distance learning. The latter forms a priority issue not only for the Indian society, but also for the learning society of the future as a whole.
Representatives from the Secretary of State for Education, EC Delegation to India and from the Ministry for Communications will open and attend the symposium. Researchers, developers, users, policy makers will discuss about innovative developments and future trends in Distance Learning, resulting from the adoption of e-Infrastructures. Given the importance of e-Learning and the way in which e-Infrastructure can help transform it, top-down policy issues as well as bottom up user and technology themes will be addressed. Top down themes such as financing and sustainability will be tackled in the plenary sessions, while the more precise issues related to Middleware, Data and Connectivity being addressed in parallel tracks.

Participation is free of charge but subject to previous registration. Online registrations are now closed but you can still register on site directly at the India Habitat Center. Registration will open on Jan. 28, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the India Habitat Center and will run right through the conference.
Accommodation and subsistence during the event will be at own participants' cost. Parts of the event will be interactively broadcasted over the internet.

NVIDIA is telling everyone that the GK110, its new Kepler GPU aimed at supercomputing, is all about improving performance per watt. But the other driving theme behind the new architecture is reducing the GPU's reliance on its CPU host. How well it accomplishes both these goals areas could determine the success of the new chip in high performance computing.

PGI, Cray, and CAPS enterprise are moving quickly to get their new OpenACC-supported compilers into the hands of GPGPU developers. At NVIDIA's GPU Technology Conference this week, there was plenty of discussion around the new HPC accelerator framework, and all three OpenACC compiler makers, as well as NVIDIA, were talking up the technology.
