Karlsruhe Institute of Technology Selects SiCortex

SiCortex computer to support research in meteorology, energy and life sciences, marking second installation of SiCortex-MEGWARE partnership in Germany

MAYNARD, Mass., Feb. 9 -- SiCortex, Inc., maker of the most energy-efficient high-productivity computing (HPC) systems, today announced that MEGWARE Computer GmbH, its partner in Germany, has been selected to install and support a SiCortex HPC system at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). On the heels of the company's recent partnership announcement with Germany's University of Magdeburg, this installation underscores the growing global receptivity to SiCortex's promise of enabling breakthrough delivered performance at the lowest power consumption, as compared to any HPC system currently available on the market.

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology selected MEGWARE to install the system for facilitating research in the fields of meteorology, energy and life sciences. Of particular interest is a project to identify the numerical simulation of the full human respiratory tract. This research requires highly complex fluid dynamics calculations -- an application for which the SiCortex HPC platform is especially well-suited because of its truly scalable multicore processing technology. This project is part of the current numerical grand challenges in HPC and is expected make a significant contribution to global productivity and competitiveness.

"The Steinbuch Center for Computing (SCC), the new information technology center at KIT, is closely involved in research activities related to the emerging multicore and co-processor technologies," said Professor Vincent Heuveline, SCC director. "The SiCortex system offers a very attractive and energy-efficient solution with the high degree of parallelism needed for our research activities."
