SGI Announces InfiniteStorage 6120 at ISC


Compact, integrated design reclaims datacenter real estate and reduces power and cooling costs

FREMONT, Calif., and HAMBURG, Germany, June 23 -- SGI today announced immediate availability of the SGI InfiniteStorage 6120, a new cost-effective storage product designed for superior density, high capacity, IOPs performance and multiple drive options at the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC) 2009 at SGI's Booth #131. Developed to deliver enterprise-level data services, the SGI InfiniteStorage 6120 is ideal for small- to medium-sized data warehouses, corporate HPC, video surveillance and rich media applications.

The SGI InfiniteStorage 6120 offers industry-leading density with 60 drives in each 4U enclosure. The unit scales to 120TB in an 8U pair with up to 11 enclosures or 660TB in a single rack -- more than a 25 percent increase over the leading competitor. With four 8Gb Fibre Channel host ports and 2.0 GB/s sustained throughput, the SGI InfiniteStorage 6120 is a self-contained system that delivers maximum flexibility and performance.

"Our goal for the SGI InfiniteStorage 6120 was to deliver a high-performance, high IOPs storage solution with enterprise-level features at a price point that mid-sized companies could afford," said Giovanni Coglitore, senior vice president and chief products officer at SGI. "The SGI InfiniteStorage 6120 pairs the highest density in the market segment with greater capacity, IOPs performance and more disk drive options than any comparable offering. The SGI InfiniteStorage 6120 is the most complete storage solution in its sector."

The SGI InfiniteStorage 6120 is the only product in its class to enable an intermix of SAS and SATA drives in a 60-bay dense enclosure, providing storage tiering in a single enclosure and allowing much greater flexibility than competitive Fibre Channel-only disk offerings. The SGI InfiniteStorage 6120 is also SSD capable, enabling a three-tier architecture in a single system.

Available features include both RAID 5 and RAID 6 options, journaled fast drive rebuild for rapid recovery and Active/Active storage managers with failover. Full SATAssure data protection provides SAS and Fibre Channel-level confidence even when using lower cost SATA drives.
