Solarflare Launches Family of 10 Gigabit Ethernet Products


Includes lowest-latency 10GbE dual-port server adapter and Enterprise OpenOnload, delivering line-rate network performance for mission-critical servers and high-frequency trading

IRVINE, Calif., March 30 -- Solarflare Communications, the pioneer in 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE), announced today the general availability of the newest additions to its family of branded 10GbE products. This includes the Solarstorm SFN5122F 10GbE dual-port server adapter and Enterprise OpenOnload, providing the industry's lowest-power and lowest-latency 10 Gigabit Ethernet solution. The SFN5122F is now available directly to customers worldwide to address growing market demands, especially for virtualization, cloud computing and high-performance computing in financial services. Enterprise OpenOnload is an application acceleration product ideal for high-performance computing in financial services and other vertical markets that require low-latency and high message rate application acceleration.

Multiple high-density 10GbE datacenter switches are now available from such vendors as Arista, BNT, Brocade, Cisco and Force10. The broad availability of line-rate, non-blocking 10GbE datacenter switches drives the need for high-performance, dual-port 10GbE server adapters. According to a February 2010 report from Dell'Oro, the 10GbE server adapter market will grow to $775 million by 2013. Furthermore, with the launch of new server platforms from Intel and AMD, IT and datacenter managers have a wide range of cost effective six and eight core processors for dual- and four-socket servers. To fully utilize the increased processing power delivered by multi-core CPUs, enterprises and datacenters require native 10GbE network connections.

Solarflare's SFN5122F delivers 40Gb/s aggregate bandwidth, driving unmatched message rate processing and accelerated performance of a wide range of applications, including financial services, multimedia content streaming and other high performance computing needs, such as oil and gas exploration. Solarflare currently delivers the highest-performance, lowest-power 10GbE server adapters on the market.

Featuring hypervisor bypass and SR-IOV, the SFN5122F alleviates network I/O bottlenecks and allows IT managers to allocate server I/O network resources directly to applications. Solarflare's scalable, hardware-assisted virtualized architecture supports thousands of vNICs for accelerated application networking. When combined with Enterprise OpenOnload, the SFN5122F can deliver sub-5 microsecond UDP/TCP application latencies, while supporting message rates in the millions. It also significantly reduces latency jitter, making it ideal for high-frequency trading.

Solarflare's Solarstorm SFN5122F dual-port 10GbE server adapter features numerous market-leading capabilities, including:

  • Support for a rich set of stateless offloads including: iSCSI, RSS, TCP/IP and UDP, LSO/TSO and LRO.
  • Lowest power at 5 watts, consuming less that half the power of leading competitors' products.
  • Energy Star requirements of less than 8 watts per port power consumption.
  • Driver support for popular operating systems environments, including Microsoft Windows, Red Hat and RHEL Linux, Solaris, VMware, Citrix XenServer and Novell SLES.

Enterprise OpenOnload supports:

  • Standard networking protocols including TCP, UDP, IP and Ethernet.
  • Existing binaries and APIs, including standard BSD sockets.
  • Installed Ethernet and standard switches and cabling.
