IU Explores the Future of High Performance Computing at Supercomputing 2010


BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Nov. 11 -- What lies ahead? Join Indiana University in imagining the supercomputing hardware, data management, and applications of tomorrow at SC10 in New Orleans, November 13-19.

"Look to the Future of High Performance Computing," hosted by Pervasive Technology Institute (PTI) at Indiana University, features talks and demonstrations by top computational scientists exploring timely questions: How can supercomputers help predict the spread of infectious disease? What will the next generation of computational grids and clouds look like? How can we best preserve the massive data sets produced by the next generation of supercomputers? How can we help scientists discover and access the best computational tools and data for their work? How can network engineers better manage large-scale research networks that support supercomputing activities? What is the best way to prepare and educate the next generation of computational experts?

At IU's "Innovation Theatre," Professor of Music Scott Deal will kick off the week-long exhibit with an original telematic work that synthesizes live music, dance, drama, and visual arts with Internet-based interactive processes and performance content. Visit the theatre November 15, 7-9pm, during the SC10 opening gala.

  • Pushing back on the Data Deluge: Advancements in Metadata, Archiving, and Workflows. Organized by Beth Plale. Tuesday, November 16, 2:45-4:45pm.
  • New and Emerging Technologies and Applications. Organized by Bill Barnett. Wednesday, November 17, 10am-noon.
  • Whamcloud. Presented by Eric Barton, CTO of Whamcloud. Wednesday, November 17, 1-1:30pm.
  • FutureGrid and Cloud Computing. Presented by Geoffrey Fox. Wednesday, November 17, 2:30-3:15pm.
