Call for Posters: HPC in Asia Workshop at ISC'12

Feb. 2 -- The second "HPC in Asia Workshop" to be held in conjunction with the 2012 International Supercomputing Conference (ISC'12) is inviting researchers to submit research posters to be displayed at the workshop.

The workshop, to be held June 17 in Hamburg, Germany, aims to share information on the latest status of HPC systems and applications from leading countries in Asia, as well as presenting related HPC activities and research in Asia.

The first HPC in Asia Workshop was held as part of ISC'11 and drew 90 attendees from Asia, Europe and the U.S. The success of that workshop led organizers to plan a second session in 2012 and expand the scope to include research posters. The scope of poster presentations include the following areas but is not limited to them:

  • Applications: any fields of science and engineering computing led by Asian HPC research groups with Asian HPC resources
  • Systems: research on system hardware/architecture/software led by Asian research groups
  • -Performance: system performance analysis related to Asian HPC systems

Review of Poster Submission

All submitted posters will be reviewed based on their extended abstract of two pages (A4 format) including figures, tables and references, by the workshop steering committee. Posters will be judged based on scientific value as well as the subject's importance as an example of state-ofthe- art research in Asian countries. Please submit your poster to submit.hpcasia@isc-events.com.

Poster Presentation

All accepted posters will be presented at the workshop poster session. The extended abstract and poster materials will be included in the online website as a collection of workshop materials.

Important dates

  • Deadline for extended abstract: Sunday, April 1, 2012
  • Acceptance notification: Sunday, April 15, 2012
  • Workshop registration opens: Thursday, March 15, 2012
  • Workshop: Sunday, June 17, 2012

The workshop will conclude with a reception held jointly with participants in PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) Day, a parallel workshop being held on the same day. The goal is to provide a collegial setting to allow HPC researchers from Asia and Europe to network and explore possible areas of collaboration

About ISC'12

Now moving into its 27th year, ISC is the world's oldest and one of the most important conferences for the HPC community, offering a strong five-day technical program with a wide range of expert speakers and exhibits from leading research centers and vendors. A number of events complement the technical program, including Tutorials, Workshops, Top500 Announcement, Research Paper Sessions, Birds of a Feather (BoF) Sessions, Research Poster Session, Exhibitor and Start-up Forums and the popular "Hot Seat Sessions" featuring leaders from industry and research centers. The conference has experienced tremendous growth over the last few years, with an estimated 2,400 participants from around the world expected to convene in Hamburg, June 17 - 21.

ISC'12 is open to IT-decision makers, scientists, members of the HPC global community and other interested parties. The ISC exhibition allows analysts, decision-makers from the automotive, defense, aeronautical, gas & oil, banking and other industries; solution providers, data storage suppliers, distributors, hardware and software manufacturers, the media, scientists and universities to see and learn firsthand about new products, applications and technological advances in the supercomputing industry today.

NVIDIA Works On CPU Co-Dependency Issues with Kepler GPU

NVIDIA is telling everyone that the GK110, its new Kepler GPU aimed at supercomputing, is all about improving performance per watt. But the other driving theme behind the new architecture is reducing the GPU's reliance on its CPU host. How well it accomplishes both these goals areas could determine the success of the new chip in high performance computing.
