Sept. 26 —A five day Technology Program on “Parallel Programming Aspects and Emerging HPC Technologies” was conducted during September 17 – 21, 2012 at Enterprise Incubator Foundation (EIF), Yerevan, Republic of Armenia to disseminate knowledge to the potential users and make the best use of the High Performance Computing PARAM facility and help conduct scientific research work using Parallel Programming tools and techniques.
High Performance Computing (HPC) experts from Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) namely, Mr Abhishek Das, Mrs Shweta Das, Mrs Deepti Malav and Mr Anish Parwage visited "Armenian – India Centre of Excellence in Information and Communication Technology" located at EIF, Yerevan, Armenia. The Centre is a joint initiative by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) through Department of IT, Government of India and Republic of Government of Armenia. It was implemented by the Enterprise Incubator Foundation, Yerevan and C-DAC, India with an objective to establish a specialized infrastructure in HPC for delivery of Information and Communication Technology related training and R & D programs. It was inaugurated on November 7, 2011 by Mr Tigran Sargsyan , Hon'ble Prime Minister of Armenia and Shri Sachin Pilot, Hon'ble Minister of State for Communications and IT, Govt of India at a function held at Yerevan State University.
Dr Bagrat Yengibaryan, Director, EIF, Yerevan said, “EIF’s ability to conduct computational science and engineering research will substantially improve, leading to increased external funding, publications and prominence for the participants, as well as attracting an improved pool of student, faculty and staff candidates. Students participating in HPC-based research will have opportunities to interact experienced HPC users, and will become accustomed to presenting scientific methodologies and results. This will prepare these students to take positions in the HPC marketplace, or to pursue (or continue) graduate studies in HPC, not only by gaining knowledge of HPC technologies and methodologies, but also through the apprenticeship opportunities associated with participating in cutting-edge scientific and technological research.”
Dr Hemant Darbari, Executive Director, C-DAC, Pune expressed, “This program will help by way of capability building in the areas of High Performance Computing and Applications like Weather Modelling, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Oceanography, Bio Informatics, Finite Element Analysis and Seismic Modelling.
Dr Pradeep K Sinha, Senior Director – HPC, C-DAC said, “India is always willing to share its experience and expertise with Armenia leading to nation socio-economic development. This technology program will expand cooperation in the field of information technologies leading to cutting edge research with the latest supercomputing tools and resources. Within the scope of its dimensions it will lead to the incubation of smaller projects under its umbrella for consolidating and strengthening the core program”.
Goldi Misra, Group Coordinator and Head, High performance Computing Solutions group at C-DAC said, ”The technology training program under Inter Governmental Scientist Exchange Program will ensure enhancing the skills of porting, parallelizing, and optimization of scientific application codes on a larger scale to the participants at Armenia. This will help effective use of modern HPC tools and techniques for problem solving at a large scale.
