Active Archive Alliance announces HP as Newest Member

BOULDER, Colo., March 13 — The Active Archive Alliance is pleased to announce HP as its newest voting member. The Active Archive Alliance is an industry alliance consisting of twelve storage companies independently focused on developing and promoting evolving technologies that enable high efficiency, indexed, and user-searchable file-based access to data.

“The storage industry is experiencing a paradigm shift as organizations large and small experience massive data growth,” said Molly Rector, chairman of the Active Archive Alliance and executive vice president of product management and worldwide marketing at Spectra Logic. “We’re seeing tremendous interest in active archives as a methodology for accessing, managing and storing high-volume data.”

“Leveraging information to make informed business decisions requires organizations to cost-effectively store and access petabytes of unstructured information,” said Chris Powers, Director of StoreEver Solutions Development, Storage, HP, and HP representative on the Active Archive Alliance Board of Directors. “Reliable, long-term data-retention platforms such as HP StoreAll or HP StoreEver Storage offer affordable, nearly limitless scalability while enabling customers to instantly turn information into actionable intelligence via Express Query and related active-archive innovations.”

An active archive is an online file and storage system that gives users real-time access to data stored for long-term retention. It allows existing file systems to expand over flash, disk and tape library storage technologies. The members of the Active Archive Alliance provide these technologies and work with customers to architect solutions that meet their current data storage needs and scales to accommodate future growth.

HP StoreAll Storage delivers hyperscale storage and petabyte scalability for archive and information retention. Storing billions of files and objects in the same storage system with automated data tiering provides the efficiency required for today’s active archive solutions.
HP StoreEver Storage, the industry’s broadest tape storage portfolio, integrates HP tape drives, tape libraries and tape media with HP Converged Storage, HP Data Protector and leading third-party backup software. This seamless integration, coupled with new LTO-6 capabilities, enables HP StoreEver Storage to deliver active archive, LTO-6 tape backup and disaster recovery solutions that help organizations do more with less by directly addressing the combined challenges of exponential data growth, long-term data retention, usability and the need to optimize IT infrastructure spend.

About the Active Archive Alliance

The Active Archive Alliance is a collaborative industry alliance dedicated to promoting active archives for simplified, online access to all archived data.  Launched in early 2010 by founding technology partners Dell, FileTek, Inc., QStar Technologies, SGI and Spectra Logic Corporation, the Active Archive Alliance is a vendor neutral organization open to leading providers of active archive technologies including file systems, active archive applications, cloud storage, and high density tape and disk storage, as well as individuals and end-users. Active Archive Alliance members provide active archive solutions, best practices, and industry testimonials so that organizations can achieve fast, online access to all their data in the most cost effective manner.
