New educational section launches on CUDA Zone
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 13 -- NVIDIA Corp. has launched "CUDA U," a new section on CUDA Zone (www.nvidia.com/cuda) that provides students, instructors, and developers educational resources for its CUDA programming environment. Now there is one place to go for CUDA instructional material, syllabuses and curricula, and information on schools and programs that offer CUDA instruction. CUDA U can be found at www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_education.
NVIDIA's CUDA technology is a programming environment based on the industry-standard C language that unlocks the massively parallel computational capabilities of the GPU processor in most PCs. Over 80 million CUDA-capable Quadro, GeForce, and Tesla GPUs are already deployed and thousands of programmers are using the free CUDA software tools to accelerate applications -- from video and audio encoding to oil and gas exploration, product design, medical imaging, scientific research, and finance. A number of schools and universities offer instruction in CUDA technology and this Web site provides a one-stop shop for information and resources about and for these programs.

The Moscow State University supercomputer, Lomonosov, has been selected for a high-performance makeover, with the goal of tripling its processing power to achieve petaflop-level performance in 2010. Right on schedule, Intel has launched its Xeon 5600 processors, codenamed "Westmere EP." The 5600 represents the 32nm sequel to the Xeon 5500 (Nehalem EP) for dual-socket servers. Intel is touting better performance and energy efficiency, along with new security features, as the big selling points of the new Xeons.
