AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, Jan. 15 — Bright Computing, the leader in high performance infrastructure management solutions for cloud, big data and HPC, today unveiled the important role it has played in the launch of Denmark’s most powerful supercomputer dedicated to Life Sciences.
Financed by the Technical University of Denmark, the DeIC, and the University of Copenhagen, the Supercomputer – known as Computerome – is owned by CBS (Center for Biological Sequence Analysis); an organisation that conducts research in the field of bioinformatics and systems biology. Computerome ranks 121 in the list of the world’s largest publicly known supercomputers, making it by far the most powerful computer in Denmark, and the world’s most powerful computer dedicated to Life Sciences.
Computerome comprises a state-of-the-art storage system and a heterogeneous supercomputer designed to accommodate the diverse nature of Life Science applications and the multiple types of data that characterises the field. University research units, hospitals, and the pharmaceutical industry will all use Computerome, enabling researchers to store and analyse the rapidly growing volumes of biological data, to compute how diseases are linked to particular genes, or how to alter bacteria so it acts like a biotechnological cell factory.
With more than 16,000 cores, 92 TeraByte of memory, and 7.5 PetaByte of storage, great emphasis has been placed on using innovative technologies to optimise the power of Computerome, to increase research capabilities in Life Science and reduce time to solution.
