SEATTLE, Wash. and BARCELONA, Spain, Nov. 19 — At the 2014 Strata + Hadoop World Barcelona conference, global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. today announced that Cloudera Enterprise is now pre-integrated into Cray’s new big data analytics appliance — the Cray Urika-XA system.
Cloudera Enterprise, the foundation for Cloudera’s enterprise data hub offering, includes Cloudera’s complete and tested distribution of Apache Hadoop. It is the most widely adopted Hadoop-based platform in the world, with Cloudera being the most prolific contributor to the open source Hadoop ecosystem. The combination of Cray’s turnkey analytics platform and Cloudera’s popular Hadoop-based platform will give Cray Urika-XA customers the confidence to address mission critical, enterprise class analytics challenges.
“Enterprise big data customers want high performance, low total cost of ownership and enterprise-grade reliability when they implement big data analytics in production,” said Ramesh Menon, Cray’s vice president of analytics. “Pairing Cray’s high performance computing technology attributes of the Urika-XA system with Cloudera’s industry-leading Hadoop solution will elevate performance while providing support up and down the hardware and software stacks required by enterprise customers.”
“We are excited about Cray’s efforts to deliver the Urika-XA system with Cloudera Enterprise, bringing a unique high performance computing design to big data,” said Tim Stevens, vice president, Corporate and Business Development, Cloudera. “The benefits of the Urika-XA form factor, integrated design and comprehensive support will provide real value to enterprise customers with a strong need for more scalable Hadoop.”
The Cray Urika-XA system is a pre-integrated, open platform for high-performance big data analytics. The platform enables organizations to gain insight and capture business value rapidly through advanced analytics, using either the pre-configured Hadoop and Spark frameworks or user-installed analytic tools. The Urika-XA platform is engineered for superior performance on the most demanding analytic workloads, possessing a dense compute footprint of over 1,500 processor cores in a single rack, 38 TB of high-speed SSD storage, and InfiniBand interconnect. With its ability to support both low-latency and batch analytics, ease of management, and standards-based design, Urika-XA provides enterprises a multi-use, turnkey analytics environment at a low total cost of ownership.
The Cray Urika-XA system features up to 48 compute nodes with integrated SSDs in a single 42U rack, including Intel Xeon processors, an InfiniBand interconnect, and a Cray Sonexion storage system. The software stack for the Urika-XA system includes Cloudera Enterprise, Apache Spark, Cray Adaptive Runtime for Hadoop and the Urika-XA management system.
