LONGMONT, Colo., Aug. 11 — Dot Hill Systems Corp., a trusted supplier of innovative enterprise-class storage systems, is sponsoring the fourth annual Rocky Mountain High Performance Computing Symposium, taking place at the University of Colorado in Boulder Aug. 12-13.
Bill Carter, president and CEO of R. Associates Inc. (RAI), a Dot Hill partner focused on delivering high performance computing (HPC) solutions, will speak at the symposium on “Lustre Architecture for Scale-Out Storage.” Open to the public, the event will be held at the Wolf Law Building on the main campus.
“RAI has been focused on the needs of the HPC market for more than 30 years,” said Bill Carter, president and CEO, RAI. “Dot Hill is our go-to-market partner in this space because AssuredSAN arrays scale for use in large system environments and deliver performance that is fine-tuned to meet the unique demands of HPC applications.”
The Rocky Mountain High Performance Computing Symposium brings together designers and users of HPC systems from universities, government laboratories, and commercial industry throughout the Rocky Mountain Region. Topics include research, education, and best practices, with two days of tutorials covering many aspects of HPC system design and use. The symposium offers nationally recognized speakers, affinity group breakout sessions, Ignite Talks, and a student research poster competition for member institutions. Student poster winners will be awarded a trip to the SC14 supercomputing trade show.
“HPC is a key market for Dot Hill and the Rocky Mountain High Performance Computing Symposium provides a venue where users, vendors and HPC architects can come together to exchange ideas, share success stories and generate best practices to achieve more efficient results,” said Joe Swanson, vice president of marketing and business development, Dot Hill. “Dot Hill AssuredSAN 4004 and Ultra48 storage systems leverage the strengths of big data and multi-tiered storage to create open solutions, providing value and performance for HPC applications.”
Dot Hill recently developed a reference platform in conjunction with Intel and Mellanox to support HPC applications used by geologists and geophysicists. Combining Dot Hill AssuredSAN 4004 storage systems with Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre software and Mellanox InfiniBand switches and adapters, the platform addresses the demands of seismic analysis by providing a scale-out, high performance, single namespace file serving solution, scalable to multiple petabytes of data storage.
Dot Hill AssuredSAN 4004 Storage Designed to Excel in HPC Environments
All Dot Hill AssuredSAN 4004 solutions, including the company’s Ultra48 ultra-density storage system, leverage the company’s ninth-generation RAID stack, which delivers up to 100,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) from disk, sustained sequential read performance of up to 6400 MB/second and writes of up to 5300 MB/second. The Dot Hill RAID Companion Processor allows AssuredSAN 4004 solutions to deliver dramatic performance gains at very aggressive price points.
AssuredSAN 4004 solutions also integrate the performance tuning and optimizations of previous-generation AssuredSAN 4000 Series models, which include streaming performance optimization to handle randomized sequential workloads. Dot Hill’s latest firmware utilizes a proprietary Adaptive Read-Ahead Algorithm that analyzes workloads and fine-tunes options to optimize the performance of specific kinds of demanding workloads, delivering better response times and meeting service level agreements. All Dot Hill AssuredSAN storage solutions are highly reliable and offer proven 99.999 percent availability, for round-the-clock access to data—essential for HPC environments.
