IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 5 — Solarflare, the leader in application-intelligent 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) networking software and hardware, today announced the addition of the 50th university to its University Program, joining a list of schools from the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific region. Using Solarflare’s flagship application accelerator, the ApplicationOnLoad Engine (AOE), Solarflare is providing such universities as Columbia University, Keio University, Nanyang Technological University, University of Glasgow, Imperial College London, and Clemson University, with the technology experience, expertise and best practices to address today’s growing data needs.
In a world that struggles to meet rising data challenges, students work alongside faculty to address the networking, security and data center concerns that face Web 2.0 companies, financial institutions and government agencies. As organizations look to solve issues in real-time data processing, students receive top-notch credentials in building and processing networking architectures, along with algorithm optimization skills that solve issues such as speed, latency and low-cost.
“Since we joined Solarflare’s University Program, our students have been preparing for careers that address data center and high performance computing issues. By leveraging Solarflare’s competence in application-intelligence networking, students can better address the real-time network data processing challenges that plague the largest organizations around the globe,” said Melissa Smith, Assistant Professor at Clemson University.
Launched in early 2012, Solarflare’s AOE platform represents the next step in the evolution of application acceleration and positions Solarflare as a pioneer in advances in custom compute. The AOE platform also introduces students to a new approach in addressing FPGA design by allowing them to concentrate on application development. One current example of how the AOE has been used for classroom instruction has been at Columbia University, where students completed various projects that focus on the algorithms and the use of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) in the financial market.
“Since the program’s launch, we have partnered with an ever-increasing number of the world’s top universities. We’re thrilled our AOE platform enables students to work on cutting-edge projects that address architectural concerns, speed and cost,” said Russell Stern, CEO of Solarflare. “As the world’s data challenges continue to permeate, we believe our breakthrough technology will provide a vital foundation and solution for the next generation of IT networking and security technologists.”
