BOSTON, Mass., July 10 — Terascala, the industry leader in HPC management software, today announced that Alan Swahn, a former vice president of product management for Flexera Software, has joined Terascala’s executive team as vice president of marketing. Terascala’s software when combined with leading compute and storage systems from Dell and NetApp create the highest performance and most reliable solutions for processing big data.
Swahn has been appointed to guide Terascala’s channel expansion and broaden its product portfolio. His leadership in startups and bringing new ideas to market is perfectly suited to manage Terascala’s growth stage with an eye to making Terascala synonymous with high performance computing and managing big data.
According to Swahn, “There is transformation underway from all-about-the-app to all-about-the-data with the power to change our quality of life and how we operate in society through insights into personal medicine, energy exploration, security, competitive purchasing, and planetary change. Terascala is uniquely positioned to manage the largest HPC systems and their associated complexity. Our software identifies component problems—servers, disks, cables, network, file system—and initiates failover to keep workloads running at peak performance. Our system-level high availability is required to minimize downtime for these complex systems.”
“Terascala is the gold standard in HPC management software and at the center of the big data revolution,” said Steve Butler, CEO of Terascala. “Alan brings depth in marketing and business development to expand our OEM business worldwide.”
Prior to joining Terascala, Swahn was vice president of marketing and business development at ManageSoft that was acquired by Flexera Software in FY2010. He also co-founded LightSpeed Semiconductor, where he was instrumental in defining a new market category for single mask programmable ASICs. Swahn was part of two startups that had successful IPOs—Viewlogic Systems and Daisy Systems. Swahn holds a BS in Electrical Engineering with High Honors from Rochester Institute of Technology and an AEET with Highest Distinction from Penn State University. About Terascala
Terascala—the High Performance Computing (HPC) management company—has pioneered software that lowers total cost of ownership by managing and optimizing data, performance, and reliability. Savings is quickly realized through minimizing downtime, moving data very fast between scratch and inexpensive backup storage, and optimizing workload throughput. The company’s TeraOS software provides system-level high availability to reduce costly degraded performance and downtime. It integrates workload, network, storage, and file system monitoring, analysis, pre-emptive failure alerts, and fast failover. Terascala’s real-time analysis and automated phone-home support keeps these highly complex systems up and running at peak performance. Support costs are minimized with no HPC or parallel file system expertise required.
