Panasas Inc., has announced Barbara Carlson has been appointed vice president of worldwide sales. Carlson will be responsible for building a sales organization and accelerating Panasas' revenue growth. With more than 20 years of executive sales management experience, Carlson will work to ensure Panasas' sales goals and strategies are tightly aligned with the company's objectives.
Carlson joins Panasas from EMC Corporation where she was responsible for an annual revenue quota in excess of a hundred million dollars. While at EMC, Carlson led a team that closed that company's largest U.S. integrated services solution sale in 2004. As the regional sales director for Silicon Graphics, Inc., Carlson led the highest revenue generating region in the U.S. and achieved the President Club Award for four consecutive years. In her 14 year tenure at Digital Equipment Corporation, she held a range of senior sales, sales management and corporate marketing positions, achieving numerous Decathlon Awards for sales excellence. Carlson holds a bachelor's degree from Purdue University and an Executive MBA from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.

Right on schedule, Intel has launched its Xeon 5600 processors, codenamed "Westmere EP." The 5600 represents the 32nm sequel to the Xeon 5500 (Nehalem EP) for dual-socket servers. Intel is touting better performance and energy efficiency, along with new security features, as the big selling points of the new Xeons.
