Benchmarks using Scali MPI Connect and Mellanox High-Performance InfiniBand Interconnect show superior performance for multi-core computing environments.
MARLBOROUGH, Mass., Sept. 13 -- Scali, the leader in higher performance computing software, today announced that they have released the first benchmark data using AMD's newly released Quad-Core Opteron model 2350 processor with the Mellanox ConnectX interconnect. The results highlight the increased importance of high performance MPI and InfiniBand interconnects as the core count increases in current and future systems.
Based on the LS-Dyna neon_refined_revised TopCrunch benchmark, Scali and Mellanox were able to compare performance of multi-core platforms running the same application. The Scali MPI Connect based-version, running in conjunction with Mellanox 20Gb/s ConnectX interconnect, delivered superior performance, in excess of 30 percent, on AMD's Quad-Core Opteron when compared to similar benchmarks published on www.topcrunch.org. These performance gains allow customers to complete more jobs per day and increase utilization of high performance computing clusters.
"Scali MPI Connect is able to unleash the true power of our Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor," said Paul Gilmore, Director, Global Software Alliances, AMD (NYSE: AMD). "AMD's native core design, integrated memory controller, and Balanced Smart Cache provide the required low latency and high bandwidth needed to feed all four cores on the processor. Scali's MPI Connect techniques for communication between cores connected by shared memory, shows excellent results running the most demanding applications."
"Mellanox is excited to work with Scali to provide high performance solution for our mutual customers" said Gilad Shainer, senior technical marketing manager at Mellanox Technologies. "Mellanox ConnectX 20Gb/s InfiniBand with Scali MPI Connect has proved to provide world class applications performance, multi-core scalability and improved HPC application productivity".
Scali, Mellanox, and AMD have teamed up to host a joint webinar on September 20, 2007 to further discuss the practical implications of multi-core technology on high performance computing. For more information or to register for the webinar, visit: www.scali.com.
