Appro Launches GreenBlade System

Appro GreenBlade System is part of Appro's Go-Green initiative allowing companies to grow at their own pace with a lower TCO

Milpitas, Calif., Feb. 17 -- Appro, a leading provider of supercomputing solutions, announced today the launch and availability of the new Appro GreenBlade System based on Quad-Core AMD Opteron Processors. The Appro GreenBlade System is a solution building block offering a modular, affordable, energy-efficient architecture that addresses today's natural business growth of small and mid-size high performance and high-density computing applications. Appro's GreenBlade System is also part of the Appro Go-Green initiative to address the HPC environmental challenges with performance optimized and power-efficient solutions.

The Appro GreenBlade system consolidates server, storage, network, power and simplified management capabilities in one package while providing the performance-density, energy-efficiency and the best ROI. The GreenBlade system is a great alternative to 1U servers for customers looking to scale down costs while scaling up performance, reliability, serviceability at competitive price. It doubles the density of standard 1U server while reducing datacenter floor space. It provides flexible and modular value-add features allowing companies to grow at their own pace and with a much lower TCO.

The system supports up to 10 dual processor server blades with up to 80 processing cores offering a variety of blades configuration options in one single solution building block. It features up to 64GB of memory and 1.0TB of storage per compute blade and up to four 1625W high-efficiency power supplies per system. GreenBlade system provides improved reliability, availability and serviceability with hot-swappable and redundant cooling fans, power supplies and blade nodes. With its unique green blade design architecture and utilizing 90 percent+ efficient power supplies, GreenBlade boasts significant power consumption reduction compared to 1U servers reducing energy bills in the datacenter. Appro GreenBlades offer remote server management, high speed interconnect options and a choice of Linux or Windows operating systems. In Q2 of 2009, Appro will also unveil its storage blades that will complement the GreenBlade solution building block providing customers with affordable mix and match compute and storage blades configuration options in one single package.

"Today, many IT departments in the HPC industry are feeling the rising pressure and the need for more computing performance while building a scalable environmentally-friendly infrastructure that lowers total cost of ownership. Appro's high-performance server solutions based on the AMD Opteron processor address our customers' demands by combining the latest green technologies with outstanding price/performance and engineering expertise to improve IT performance while reducing energy bills and floor space in the datacenter," said John Lee, VP of advanced technology solutions of Appro.

"Appro's high performance and mid-size business customers will benefit from the industry-leading performance-per-watt capabilities of Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors," said Patrick Patla, vice president and general manager, Server and Workstation division at AMD (NYSE: AMD). "The new Appro GreenBlade takes full advantage of the low memory latency and high data throughput of AMD's Direct Connect Architecture, providing substantial floating-point capabilities for customers who are looking to get more computing power with less wattage."
