SiCortex Offers Incentive in Honor of Earth Day


Company goes beyond the 60-80 percent energy savings SiCortex systems deliver -- will pay the remaining electricity costs for SiCortex systems

MAYNARD, Mass., April 22 -- With datacenters currently consuming three percent of the nation's total electricity and predicted to surpass the airline industry in carbon footprint by 2020, the industry is faced with a major dilemma: how to reduce energy consumption and help reverse global warming without sacrificing the computing power needed to drive important research. SiCortex, maker of the world's most energy-efficient high-productivity computers, is offering a special incentive to help high productivity computing (HPC) managers do their part to address this dilemma. In honor of Earth Day, SiCortex will pay for one full year of electricity costs on SC1458 and SC5832 systems purchased for research or production work related to energy conservation, ecology or global warming. These energy efficient systems pack up to 5,832 processors in a single-cabinet system and run optimized Linux, the operating system of choice for HPC.

The promotion kicks off today and will be available through June 30. Customers can lock in this special offer by registering their interest by April 30 on the SiCortex Web site. The systems will be packaged with a complementary SC072-PDS desk-side development system, and application tuning will be included with each purchase to ensure optimal performance. Scientists from esteemed institutions like Purdue University, the University of Houston, the University of Maine and Washington State University are performing research on these earth-friendly computers to drive a better understanding of the Earth and human impact on the planet. SiCortex systems are rated at the top of the Green Computing Performance Index (GCPI), a tool that evaluates the leading HPC computers' energy efficiency. This index is based on the HPCC benchmark suite results, yielding relative performance/Watt information to inform purchase decisions.
