Pascal Barbolosi
Vice President, Extreme Computing at Bull Group

Widely heralded as a leader in the HPC European community, Barbolosi is highly respected as a strategic visionary, for his uncanny ability for starting operations or markets from scratch, creatively driving initiatives, and delivering real results. With a laser sharp focus on customer satisfaction and team building, Mr. Barbolosi has been serving as the vice president of the Extreme Computing business unit at Bull since his appointment during ISC’10. With Bull’s meteoritic rise over the past few years to an industry leader, it will be very interesting to see what direction Barbolosi guides the company for even greater profitability this year.

Less than one year after Barbolosi arrived, his team launched “Extreme Factory”, Bull’s visionary pay per use HPC on demand solution, as well as “mobull,” Bull’s mobile datacenter solution. More recently, Bull’s portfolio of supercomputers has dramatically been extended with the launch of a revolutionary ambient water direct liquid cooling system. Under his tenure, Bull has delivered two new petascale supercomputers, one of them being the first Bull Supercomputer in Asia. Mr. Barbolosi has also been instrumental in igniting the idea of creating Bull’s Users Group of Extreme Computing, named BUX by its board, which started operations a few months ago.

Prior to joining Bull Group, Barbolosi was serving as managing director of SGI Southern Europe, where he spent 15 years in a number of sales, technical and services senior management positions. He also spent 5 years at Sun Microsystems and 4 years at Digital Equipment Corporation, in various sales and technical positions. Mr. Barbolosi holds a Bachelors degree in Mathematics from the University of Montpellier, and a Masters degree in Computer Sciences from the Ecole Centrale of Marseille in France.

A native of the French island of Corsica, Barbolosi lives by the words, ‘Pace e Salute’, meaning ‘Peace and Health’, as the most important things to have in life, and believes that these are essential elements for achieving true business success.
