Last week we carried an article that was quite popular about the necessity and viability of turning on ECC for GPU devices on large clusters, pointing to research that demonstrated the performance overhead may not always be worth the ECC price for some applications. Here to offer some insight into this research is Dr. Ross Walker, an Associate Research Professor at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. He is joined by Robin Betz, an undergraduate researcher who was also involved in the investigation.
