<description>The Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) is seeking an individual with a proven track record as a Scientific Workflow Application Support Specialist for a one-year appointment (renewable) to the Extended Collaborative Support Service (ECSS) of the XSEDE project funded by the National Science Foundation. ECSS teams members of the XSEDE user community with expert staff members for an extended period to work together to solve challenging research and education problems through the application of cyberinfrastructure. This position will provide Scientific Workflow Application expertise to the ECSS team, and reports to the Co-Directors of ECSS.

Under the supervision of the Director of IT operations for these departments, you will work on the installation, ongoing operations and user support for high-end computing systems.

Your core responsibilities will include system administration, software maintenance, system monitoring and troubleshooting for advanced systems and related infrastructure. You will have the opportunity to work with a range of systems and technologies, such as compute clusters, parallel-file systems, high-speed interconnects, GPU-based computing and database servers. You will also provide user support, documentation and consultation to help ensure the effective use of HPC resources by faculty members and their students.

                                                

Job Requirements:
Must have a knowledge of Linux operating systems (SLES, CentOS, Redhat, Fedora, Ubuntu), Linux system administration experience, software installation and maintenance experience and fluency in at least one common scripting language (e.g., ksh, bash, Perl, Python). Also requires a working knowledge of computer architecture, storage and networking concepts, as well as good problem solving skills and attention to detail. Must have strong oral and written English communication skills, good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team environment, plus willingness to work off-hours when needed. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is ideal. Web programming, wiki and database management experience is preferred, as well as an understanding of workload managers, installation and system usage. Experience with highly parallel, clustered or supercomputing systems, installation testing and test reporting and GPUs is a plus. A background in automating system administration tasks and processes, parallel programming, deploying and maintaining a distributed Windows computing infrastructure and parallel file systems is also preferred.

You will be trained to troubleshoot Data ONTAP software running on NetApp hardware to assist customers with problem isolation and resolution.

Essential Functions:

Team with senior EPS Engineers in resolving customer issues in the Data ONTAP Storage Operating System.

Collaborate with senior EPS engineers in debugging system failures. Identify software defects using source code debugging and various other troubleshooting tools. Perform root cause analysis to identify product defects.

Make recommendations for remediating problems in the form of workarounds and source code changes.

Contribute to the development of software solutions and software patches for customer found problems.

Develop test plans based on the customer reproduction scenarios. Implement test cases on system simulators or lab hardware.

Focus on an area of technical specialization and attend classes, complete lab projects, read and work with other engineers on technical issues which will help cultivate that expertise.</description>
