Podcast: Adapting Supercomputers for Whole Genome Analysis

Nicole Hemsoth

On today’s edition of Soundbite, we’ll be talking with Dr. Elizabeth McNally, a Professor of Medicine and Human Genetics at the University of Chicago. She and her team have adapted a Cray XE6 supercomputer at the Computation Institute at Argonne National Laboratory to achieve the parallelization required for concurrent multiple genome analysis.

This approach not only markedly speeds computational time but also results in increased usable sequence per genome. We talk about what elements are needed in the supercomputers of the future that will tackle these problems and address the existing research environment from a genomics perspective.
