Podcast: Moving Massive Climate Research Data at Global Scale

Nicole Hemsoth

Today we’ll be talking with Dean Williams, a computer scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Lab, who is leading an effort to improve the network infrastructure for moving climate data around the world.

Climate scientists require network connections that can deal with petabytes of modeling and observational data, which will traverse more than 13,000 miles of networks if that helps put this into some context. Dean will describe current efforts to make the movement of large data across a global grid more robust and shares some of the challenges and benefits his team has encountered.
