Podcast: SDSC Keeps PACE with Big Data, Supercomputing

Nicole Hemsoth

Today we’ll be talking with Dr. Natasha Balac, who is the Director of the Predictive Analytics Center of Excellence, or PACE, at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC). The center is focused on a number of large-scale data mining projects including collaborations with UCSD Medical School and UCSD’s Smart Energy Grid.

In this episode, we’ll cover how the use of particular approaches to solving complex data-intensive challenges (in-memory, Hadoop, and languages development with R, Python and others) has gone for the team at SDSC, how applications are running on high core count systems, and what methodologies seem most promising.
