Podcast: A “Wind Tunnel” for Large-Scale Datacenter Design

Nicole Hemsoth

Datacenter design is an incredibly time-consuming and expensive process, especially for potential datacenters that need to serve a diverse array of workloads. A group of researchers has taken up the challenge to find a way to make datacenter design a more systematic process that takes hardware and software interdependencies into account. The result is a “wind tunnel” approach, which Dr. Avrilia Floratou from IBM Research, one of the lead researchers in the wind tunnel project, will describe for us today.

More information about the wind tunnel approach can be found here: http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~jignesh/publ/WT-vision.pdf
