Mark Seager

Mark Seager
Chief Technology Officer for the High Performance Computing Ecosystem at Intel

Up until recently joining Intel as CTO for the High Performance Computing Ecosystem in March 2011, Seager had managed the Platforms portion of the Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) program at Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL), since 1983, where he successfully deployed the ASCI Blue Pacific (3.9 TF/s in 1998), ASCI White (12.3 TF/s in 2000) and Purple (100TF/s in 2005) systems, along with BlueGene/L (360 TF/s in 2005) and Dawn BlueGene/P (500 TF/s in 2010). Seager also developed the Linux strategy for LLNL, and deployed multiple generations of leading edge clusters.

Seager recently led the ASC Sequoia procurement of a 20 PF/sec system to be delivered in 2011. As the CTO for the HPC Ecosystem at Intel, Seager is working on an ecosystem approach to develop and build HPC systems for Exascale with technology based on the broader high volume HPC systems. An industry leader, he has won numerous awards including the prestigious Edward Teller Award for "Major Contributions to the State-of-the-Art in High Performance Computing."

Seager received his B.S. Degree in Mathematics and Astrophysics at the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque in 1979 and his PhD in Numerical Analysis from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984.

Seager’s other interests center upon the breeding and training of Arabian horses for both endurance and show on his ranch in Northern California. His three-year-old horse, Glynnsong’s Encore, won Sport Horse Champion under saddle and in hand last season, and three Dressage Championships last year.
