HPC Industry Experts to Present at Moab-Con 2008

PROVO, Utah, May 15 -- Cluster Resources, Inc., developers of the Moab family of products, today announced the speaker lineup for Moab-Con 2008: Advancing Computing Intelligence, the first annual Moab Conference where industry experts across commercial, academic and government sectors will discuss the latest solutions in HPC and datacenter management.

Dr. Kazi A. Zaman, director of engineering in the Strategic Data Solutions Business unit at Yahoo!, will present the keynote address on Wednesday, May 28, kick-starting the general sessions of the conference. Zaman's speech, entitled "Powering Data Pipelines at Yahoo! with Moab and Torque" will cover how using the advanced intelligence capabilities of Moab Workload Manager can dramatically improve efficiency and resource usage for complex data processing workflows.

Later in the week, J.W. ("Pat") O'Bryant, consultant at ExxonMobil; Don Maxwell, senior system administrator at Oak Ridge National Laboratory; and others will present what's being done now with Moab on some of the largest HPC systems in the world. Other presenters include:

  • Jerry Smith of Sandia National Laboratories, presenting "Tuning for Massive Systems"

  • Tim McIntire of Clustercorp, Nathan Conger of Novell, and Michael Jackson, president of Cluster Resources, presenting "Automated Cluster Deployment"

  • Don Lipari of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, presenting "Managing Clusters with Moab+SLURM"

  • Steven DuChene and Andre Kerstens of SGI, presenting "Applying Green Computing to Clusters and the Data Center"

  • Susanne M. Balle of Hewlett-Packard, presenting "Adaptive Data Center"

  • Egan Ford of IBM, presenting "The Evolution of Scale-Out Computing"

  • Peter Enstrom of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), presenting "Managing a Real-World Grid -- Politics, Resource Heterogeneity, User Issues and Competing Technologies"

Collectively, these presenters will provide Moab-Con attendees with real-world solutions that can be implemented now.

"From the beginning, the intent of Moab-Con was to create an opportunity for datacenter and HPC admins to network and collaborate with fellow experts in the industry," said Dave Jackson, CTO of Cluster Resources. "We're thrilled to have foremost experts like Kazi Zaman of Yahoo! and Jerry Smith of Sandia National Laboratories share their insights and ideas with our attendees."

Additionally, conference attendees will have the opportunity to interact with session presenters through panel discussions on best practices in data management, cloud computing and next-generation workload management. Panels will be held Wednesday through Friday of the conference, and panelists will consist of session presenters and Cluster Resources developers.

"We selected a wide variety of speakers and topics to ensure attendees get the most out of their Moab-Con experience," Jackson said. "There's something for everyone here and conference goers won't be disappointed."

Moab-Con takes place May 27-30, 2008, at the Provo Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Provo, Utah. A full list of session topics and speakers can be found at http://clusterresources.com/moabcon/agenda.php.
