Fremont, CA — Mylex Corporation, a leading RAID controller vendor in the non-captive network systems marketplace, announced that VA Linux Systems, a leading provider of Linux computer systems, support and Internet services, has incorporated Mylex RAID controllers into its entire line of Linux servers. The agreement extends Mylex’s leadership in the fast-growing Linux RAID market.
“We chose Mylex’s RAID controllers for our Linux servers because of their ability to greatly enhance the performance and reliability of our product line, ” said Leonard Zubkoff, chief technical officer of VA Linux Systems. “Mylex has the most complete product line that offers the broadest, deepest and most high performance products of any RAID controller vendor.” The Linux driver for Mylex’s RAID controllers was written by Zubkoff, who is a well-respected member of the Linux development community and a member of the Linux International Technical Board.
VA Linux Systems’ broad range of Linux-based Web, file and database server solutions now offers Mylex’s eXtremeRAID 1100 and AcceleRAID 150 controllers. Mylex’s eXtremeRAID 1100 controllers are being used to maximize performance in VA Linux Systems’ mid-to high-end servers, while Mylex’s AcceleRAID 150 controllers provide affordable RAID protection for VA Linux Systems’ line of entry-level servers.
“Mylex has been a long-time supporter of Linux and the Linux OS development model,” said Eric Herzog, Mylex’s vice president of marketing. “It is exciting to join with VA Linux Systems in the advancement of Linux product development.” In February of this year, Mylex added Linux support to its entire product line based on growing customer demand for Linux RAID solutions.
Mylex offers a broad range of internal and external RAID controllers that support Linux. VA Linux Systems chose Mylex’s entry-level and high-end PCI controllers to enhance their servers’ performance and reliability.
VA Linux Systems has incorporated Mylex’s eXtremeRAID 1100 into its high-end servers. The eXtremeRAID 1100 achieves its performance by integrating several advanced technologies, such as Mylex firmware, a 223 MHz Intel StrongARM on-board RISC processor, and a 64-bit PCI bus and multiple Ultra SCSI LVD busses. The controller delivers performance greater than 8,000 I/Os per second as compared to the 3,500 I/Os per second typical of many other mid-range and high-end controllers. Mylex’s eXtremeRAID 1100 is designed to eliminate bottlenecks along the network data path so data may be accessed more quickly.
Mylex’s AcceleRAID 150 is used in VA Linux Systems’ line of entry-level servers. AcceleRAID 150 is an affordable, high-performance, single channel Ultra2 SCSI LVD controller for desktops, workstations and entry-level servers that also upgrades existing system board SCSI channels to powerful RAID channels. AcceleRAID 150 offers many of the same high performance and fault tolerance features typical of expensive high-end RAID controllers at an entry-level price because it utilizes chips on the servers’ motherboard.
