Blue Bell, PA — Unisys Corporation announced that a Unisys Aquanta system has supported the highest number of Sales and Distribution (SD) benchmark users of the SAP R/3 inter-enterprise business solution ever on a single server with a two-tier client/server configuration using Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 database management system.
The result of the test, which simulated a workload of 352 R/3 SD benchmark users, topped the previous best mark of 290 SD benchmark users for a single-server configuration based on SQL Server 7.0. The Unisys Aquanta ES5085 server tested was specially configured to optimize the performance of SAP R/3 solutions.
The results were derived using the SAP R/3 Standard Sales and Distribution Application Benchmark methodology, the computer industry’s standard method of measuring SAP R/3 performance. The test simulated the maximum number of concurrent users supported by a system that is providing acceptable response times.
“These test results show the high-performance advantages of Unisys servers running the SQL Server 7.0 database,” said G.W. Smith, vice president and general manager, Worldwide Business Solutions, Unisys Computer Systems. “They represent another example of how we are leveraging our data center expertise and our partnerships to optimize Windows NT-based SAP R/3 solutions for enterprise business solutions, electronic business and other mission-critical computing requirements.”
The benchmark was performed on a Unisys Aquanta ES5085 server with eight 550-MHz Pentium III Xeon processors, four Gbytes of memory, R/3 Release 4.0B, SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Edition and Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition operating system. The CPU utilization was 99 percent, with a total disk space of 441 Gbytes. The benchmark was conducted at the Unisys performance laboratory in Mission Viejo, CA, and has been certified by SAP.
