Ames, IA — Engineering Animation announced that Alenia Aerospazio, a subsidiary of Finmeccanica S.p.A based in Rome, Italy, has deployed EAI’s enterprise visualization and digital prototyping solutions. EAI’s solutions were selected after a competitive evaluation and will be used at Alenia’s Space Division, Alenia Aerospazio Divisione Spazio, to view, analyze and share large 3D models of the Node-2 International Space Station (ISS) module.
“After a thorough evaluation of visualization software, we concluded that EAI’s solutions were the best choice for us because of EAI’s superior technology, ease of use and CAD, PDM and platform independence,” said Piero Messidoro, manager of the Integration & Test Department at Alenia Aerospazio Divisione Spazio in Turin, Italy. “Our original intention was to select a visualization solution as part of our PDM implementation, which we expect to begin in the near future. It became clear, however, that EAI’s solutions could provide immediate value by allowing further sharing, visualization and analysis of the International Space Station Node 2 models that we are developing using Dassault Systemes’ CATIA.”
Alenia Aerospazio Divisione Spazio specializes in orbital infrastructures, scientific satellite engineering, telecommunications and remote sensing. The NODE 2 of the International Space Station, which is being developed by Alenia, is a cylindrical structure used to link different elements of the ISS. EAI’s solutions will be used by Alenia Aerospazio engineers in the verification, integration and testing departments to manipulate and analyze large 3D computer-aided design (CAD) models of the ISS. Engineers will also use EAI’s solutions during the assembly phase to detect potential errors in the assembly sequence that would otherwise result in lost time and revenue.
“We are pleased to support Alenia’s efforts on the International Space Station,” said Robert Nierman, EAI executive vice president and chief operating officer. “We are also pleased that we were selected by Alenia in a competitive evaluation, reinforcing once again that EAI’s visualization and digital prototyping solutions remain the industry leaders.”
