Franklin, MA — Altiga Networks announced it has secured a U.S. federal government license to export Altiga VPNs equipped with 168-bit triple Data Encryption Standard (DES) security to the widest available distribution base. The license approval enables Altiga, its customers and its partners to export Altiga’s 168-bit triple DES encrypted VPN Concentrators for use in hundreds of countries and to the greatest number of distribution partners throughout the world without seeking additional U.S. government approvals.
This ensures fast and efficient VPN deployments on a global scale by Altiga enterprise customers and service providers with an international presence.
“Some multi-national companies and service providers mistakenly assume that they’ll be tied up forever in red tape if they try to globally deploy 168-bit triple DES VPNs, and that’s inhibited their ability to fully capitalize on the tremendous networking cost savings offered by VPNs. We addressed this as soon as we realized it was an issue, and we’ve removed the approval barriers for our customers and partners,” said Greg Marcotte, vice president of marketing, Altiga Networks. “Customers can purchase our 168-bit triple DES VPN Concentrator Series and Client software in the U.S. and export them, or they can buy them overseas from one of our international partners. At the same time, any vendor that partners with us can sell our products in the U.S. and overseas, equipped with 168-bit triple DES. This significantly reduces global deployment hurdles and exemplifies how Altiga is providing its customers with what it needs to remain competitive in a global world.”
Altiga’s 168-bit triple DES support provides VPN Concentrator security equal to leased line and frame relay systems at a fraction of the cost, by leveraging the Internet as a global network. Prior to 168-bit encryption availability, many international businesses and service providers relied on 56-bit encryption (which is millions of times less secure than 168-bit triple DES encryption), or other less secure, custom-built security methods. Only financial institutions, medical facilities and other businesses, with high-security needs and the resources to pursue approvals, had been able to adopt 168-bit triple DES encryption outside the U.S.
The Altiga VPN Concentrator Series is a comprehensive remote access and site to site product line, which includes the C10, C20, and C50 models, all focused on addressing bandwidth-intensive broadband connections, such as DSL and cable modems. The series is ideal for enterprises and service providers that must support remote users and remote offices, while achieving the highest performance, 168-bit triple DES encryption security, and redundancy.
