Marlboro, MASS. — Synchronicity announced that it has built a business-to-business infrastructure for concurrent digital signal processor (DSP) core development across multiple facilities that make up the StarCore Technology Center. The first product of this relationship is the recently announced StarCore SC140 DSP core. Synchronicity’s DesignSync and ProjectSync Internet enterprise application software was used by the engineers at diverse locations including: Austin, Texas; Allentown, Pa.; Atlanta; and Herzelia, Israel, to drive the DSP technology to market.
The StarCore Technology Center is a collaborative research and development initiative between Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Group and Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector focused on jointly developing next-generation DSP technology. Synchronicity’s software will enable the dispersed sites to work together as one, by providing the mechanism for StarCore to distribute their DSP intellectual property through the Internet in a secure yet effective manner. The Synchronicity system forms the backbone of development supply chain that flows from Motorola and Lucent Microelectronics Group into StarCore, and back to both parent companies.
Motorola and Lucent have talented and experienced DSP development teams and Synchronicity’s software enables them to staff up StarCore without incurring the high costs and high attrition of relocating staff. Through the effective pooling of this talent, StarCore is able to bring a better product to market faster. StarCore will continue using DesignSync and ProjectSync to manage almost all the computer data relating to their developments, including the hardware design, documentation and marketing files.
“Synchronicity’s offering greatly eased the sharing of project data across multiple Motorola and Lucent sites,” said Tim Jordan, StarCore EDA manager. “We needed to use existing design data from both organizations and accept and track ongoing input like engineering change orders. Their software also has the security, encryption and access control to enable this sharing without exposing the two companies’ intellectual property portfolios. Synchronicity’s solutions enabled StarCore to manage this development complexity to deliver on time DSP cores that lead in both compiler efficiency and performance.”
DesignSync is an enterprise Internet application that manages full flow project data through secure version control, release, and configuration management across multiple sites. ProjectSync adds threaded team communications, issue tracking, project lifecycle management and reporting of project-critical data through a simple Web browser interface. These products raise development productivity and improve communication, both within the enterprise and between collaborating businesses.
“In an innovative use of the Internet for business-to-business collaboration, Synchronicity combines our customers’ work flows into virtual project teams. The StarCore collaboration between Lucent and Motorola successfully applies this concept to a major joint technology alliance,” said Dennis Harmon, CEO Synchronicity Inc.
Synchronicity supplies Internet-based enterprise and business-to-business collaboration solutions to manage the supply chain feeding the development of complex electronic products. Synchronicity’s enterprise applications, DesignSync and ProjectSync, enhance design productivity by enabling effective data management, parallel development techniques and proactive team communication within the design team, across the enterprise and between businesses.
