LSI Logic Introduces Enterprise Storage System

August 25, 2000

NEWS BRIEFS

Milpitas, CA — LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of scalable storage solutions for the enterprise, announced the MetaStor E2400 entry-level enterprise storage system. Designed for e-business, workgroup and departmental computing environments, the system’s full-fibre design and modular architecture gives users unprecedented flexibility to quickly, easily and dynamically respond to changing capacity and performance requirements. The MetaStor E2400 storage system combines all the benefits of easily manageable, entry-level storage with the robust features demanded from enterprise storage.

“With the addition of the E2400, the MetaStor E-Series family of scalable storage for the enterprise provides the broadest range of open, server- and SAN-attached storage solutions available today,” said Mitch Seigle, director of marketing, LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc. “All MetaStor E-Series platforms offer the most sought after enterprise storage features and superior storage management software, ensuring unmatched performance, availability, and scalability for enterprises of all shapes and sizes.”

The MetaStor E2400 is designed for workgroup or departmental storage consolidation, server clusters, and small- to mid-range SANs that require continuous access to data-whenever and wherever needed. Featuring LSI Logic’s innovative HotScale technology, the MetaStor E2400 delivers fully-dynamic online capacity expansion, maximizing availability and flexibility. Additional enterprise-class availability features include: dual active controllers, redundant power supplies, cooling fans, and a fully redundant I/O path. All active components are hot-swappable and customer replaceable for outstanding ease of service.

Powerful storage systems require powerful storage management software. The MetaStor E2400 features SANtricity Storage Manager software for highly secure, centralized management via an easy-to-use, Java-based graphical user interface. SANtricity software offers comprehensive online administration of all storage system functions. As the common management interface for the entire family of MetaStor E-Series storage systems, SANtricity increases administrator productivity and reduces administrative costs. When equipped with optional SANshare storage partitioning software, SANtricity Storage Manager will allow administrators to partition the E2400 system into as many as eight virtual storage systems, each supporting multiple hosts and each capable of functioning as a boot device. The MetaStor E2400 with SANtricity and SANshare software is especially well-suited to storage area networks where a single storage system is used to serve the needs of multiple workgroup or departmental servers.

The MetaStor E2400 is fast, reliable storage for workgroups and departments. With its modular building block architecture, the system is able to easily scale from 36 GB to over 2 TB by adding expansion modules. This uniquely designed “pay as you grow” modularity also enables seamless migration to the MetaStor E4400 high-performance enterprise storage system, allowing further capacity growth up to 16 TB.

“Uninterrupted access to information has become mission critical at every level from e-business start-ups to the Fortune 500,” said Charlotte Rancourt, research director for Storage Systems at IDC. “The entry-level space needs the high availability and performance features offered in the enterprise space. With the introduction of the MetaStor E2400, LSI Logic has demonstrated that they’re listening to the needs of these businesses.”

LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of LSI Logic Corporation, is a leader in delivering high performance, highly scalable, open storage solutions for the enterprise. Available through leading OEM suppliers, and through a worldwide network of resellers under the MetaStor brand name, LSI Logic offers a complete line of robust Fibre Channel, SCSI and network-attached storage products integrated with centralized storage management software. In addition, the MetaStor Open SAN Initiative offers certified, interoperability-tested storage area network (SAN) solutions. For MetaStor product information, visit http://www.metastor.com .
