IMPOREX/SIREX IN AGREEMENT WITH VUONG

Los Angeles, CA — SIREX, Inc. announced that it has executed an agreement with Dr. Son Vuong Ph.D., University of Waterloo, appointing Dr. Vuong the new Chief Technical Consultant to SIREX. Dr. Vuong has specialized in protocol engineering, multimedia and wireless communications, high speed networks, mobile intelligent agents and distributed systems and architecture. For the past 18 years, Dr. Vuong has been researching mainly in the area of protocol engineering, focusing on formal techniques and tools for the design, validation, implementation and testing of communication protocols. He has successfully implemented a number of useful tools for protocol engineering, including: VALRA, a protocol Validator which is based on Reachability Analysis; VALISYN, a protocol Validator/Synthesizer which allows protocol designer to interactively or non interactively validate existing protocols, or to synthesize new protocols which are free from syntactic errors; Estelle-C compiler for automatic generation of protocol implementation in C; and TESTGEN, a protocol TEST Generation and selection Environment.

Moving towards the future, Dr. Vuong has been coordinating an academic team to pursue Pervasive Computing, Multimedia Realtime Communications and WAVE networks. SIREX agrees with Dr. Vuong that the Internet is entering an era of pervasive computing, where IP technologies will attach to every form of electronic appliance. An important challenge for the future growth of the Internet is to design the next generation Internet backbone with enhanced routers that can efficiently forward the exponentially increasing volume of traffic, and at the same time provide service differentiation for various types of traffic. This project plans to address a range of design and implementation issues related to integrated services, differentiated services and multi-protocol label switching, including quality of services based routing, dynamic resource and traffic management, packet forwarding schemes, multicast routing, network monitoring, traffic modeling and performance testing. Dr. Vuong believes that the network language of the future will be a powerful programming language to work with and solve the problems of a dynamic and distributed nature, that is elegant, natural and that frees the application developer from concerns of inter operability, compatibility and dynamism imposed by underlying heterogeneous networks and components. Dr. Vuong has worked with a new technology that is an ideal novel programming language and information technology, that is based on a practical paradigm of coordination and control of large open distributed systems supported by computer and telecommunications networks. It will permit the dynamic creation of intelligent, highly parallel and distributed knowledge processing and control structures that may evolve with the systems.

SKY PROMOTES MENDOCHA AND DRAKE

Chelmsford, MA — SKY Computers, Inc., a subsidiary of Analogic Corporation, announced two key promotions in its sales organization. Mike Drake has been named to the position of director international sales and business development and John Paul Mendocha has been named to the position of North American sales manager. Both Mike and John report to SKY vice president of worldwide sales and marketing, Ed Hennessy. “SKY Computers finished FY2000 on July 31, 2000 with a record increase in our sales orders,” reports Ed Hennessy. “The acceptance and adoption of our AltiVec-based products has resulted in a significant growth trend which will continue to accelerate through FY2001 and beyond. This has resulted in expanded staffing both at headquarters and in the field sales organization. Mike Drake and John Paul Mendocha each bring more than 20+ years of first-class sales experience and success to SKY. I am confident in their ability to continue to lead SKY Computers’ sales growth and worldwide expansion.”

Mike Drake, now director of international sales and business development, came to SKY from its parent company, Analogic Corporation, in 1993 to establish business operations in Europe, Australia and the Far East. At Analogic Mike was group sales manager with responsibility for European sales. Mike began his career with Racal Instruments as an applications engineer in 1972 and moved on to field sales in 1976, first at Racal and subsequently at Wavetek before joining Analogic in 1987. Mike operates out of SKY’s European headquarters in the United Kingdom. John Paul Mendocha, now North American sales manager, has recently re-joined SKY Computers from DY4 Computer Systems where he was western regional sales manager since 1996. John was western regional sales manager for SKY from 1993 – 1995, leaving to join the start-up company, Integrated Computing Engines. Prior to SKY, John was a top producer for Mercury Computer Systems and Alacron. John will manage the U.S. sales team out of SKY’s Southern California office.

PENMAN LOGS OFF AS COMPAQ AUSTRALIA’S CHIEF

Compaq Computer Australia’s managing director, Mr Ian Penman, has become the second stalwart of the Australian personal computer scene to reveal plans to quit this month. Mr. Penman announced his retirement yesterday, two weeks after the resignation of Hewlett-Packard’s managing director, Mr. Bruce Thompson. Mr. Penman, 55, will pursue his own business interests, and spend more time on his rural property near Canberra and sailing. Mr. Penman started the Australian operation of Compaq in 1985 and steered the company to its high point during the peak of the personal computer era in the early to mid-1990s. More recently, Compaq had suffered a downturn in market share and over the past three years has struggled with the incorporation of Tandem and Digital Equipment Corp.

Mr. Penman said, however, that the South Pacific operation had experienced record revenues of $1.6 billion last year, despite having a tough time in the last five months of the year. Mr. Penman, who will leave the company in October, said he was asked to act as chairman of Compaq Australia after the appointment of a new managing director, but turned it down. He said he would be involved in the selection of a new head and had a couple of strong contenders in Australia for the position.

EVANS & SUTHERLAND APPOINTS IUANOW

Salt Lake City, UTAH — Evans & Sutherland (E&S) announced the appointment of Nicholas J. Iuanow to the position of Corporate Vice President and Treasurer. In this position, Mr. Iuanow will report to Chief Financial Officer Richard J. Gaynor, and will be responsible for worldwide treasury operations, financial risk management, and capital structure planning and strategy. Mr. Iuanow will also act as a Trustee on the company’s pension board. An experienced corporate finance executive, Mr. Iuanow has extensive experience in domestic and international treasury management, financial planning and strategy, and mergers and acquisitions. Before joining E&S, he spent 10 years with Cordant Technologies, a $2.5 billion aerospace manufacturing company. His most recent position at Cordant was Vice President and Treasurer, where his primary responsibilities were worldwide finance and financial planning and strategy. During Mr. Iuanow’s tenure at Cordant, he was a key member of the executive management team that grew the company revenues from $1 billion to $2.5 billion.

Prior to Cordant, Mr. Iuanow held various financial management positions with Morton Thiokol, a former Fortune 200 manufacturer, and Kleinwort Benson, a London-based investment bank. Mr. Iuanow earned his B.S. from Boston College and an MBA from DePaul University in Chicago. “We are very pleased to have a finance executive of Mr. Iuanow’s caliber join our management team,” said James R.
